The city of Caserta experienced an unforgettable evening thanks to the inaugural concert of the Domenico Cimarosa Orchestra—an event that marked the beginning of a new and promising musical reality in the Campania region with enthusiasm and refinement. Conducted by Maestro Ivano Caiazza, the ensemble offered the audience a high-level program, receiving warm acclaim from a large and enthusiastic crowd.
The undisputed highlight of the first part of the evening was the Symphony in A major K.201 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, performed with deep sensitivity and energy. Maestro Caiazza’s direction brought out every nuance of Mozart’s masterpiece, highlighting both its liveliness and its more lyrical, nostalgic aspects. The strings, powerful and refined, gave the piece solemnity and momentum, while the winds added a soft and enveloping elegance. Particularly notable was the contribution of the horns, which harmoniously blended the various orchestral timbres into a sound of rare beauty.
Making the concert even more captivating was the performance of the symphonic tale Op. 67 “Peter and the Wolf” by Sergei Prokofiev, made even more engaging by the narration of Neapolitan writer and playwright Maurizio De Giovanni. With his distinctive tone and evocative storytelling, De Giovanni took the audience on an emotional journey, enriching Prokofiev’s music with literary and theatrical flair.
The orchestra’s soloists demonstrated remarkable talent and artistic maturity. Among them were oboist Domenico Sarcina, also the orchestra’s president, flutist Giampiero Pannone, bassoonist Mauro Russo, and principal horn Gianpiero Riccio—all members of the internal organization—who enchanted with solos of great virtuosity and expressive depth. Also outstanding was the performance of clarinetist Luigi Pettrone, as well as the collective effort of all the musicians, contributing to an impeccable execution.
Special praise goes to the artistic and logistical direction of the event. The venue was managed with professionalism and care by Vice President Dr. Mario Cataldo and Administrative Secretary Prof. Carmine Cataldo, ensuring a warm welcome and flawless organization, worthy of such an important premiere.
The inaugural concert of the Domenico Cimarosa Orchestra was not only a musical event but a true cultural celebration. Its success confirms the audience’s desire to return to live music and highlights the enormous potential of this new orchestral ensemble, which is poised to become a reference point for the musical life of Caserta and beyond.
With this first performance, the Cimarosa Orchestra has laid the foundation for a path of artistic excellence, built on commitment, talent, and passion. A beginning that gives great hope for the future and has already captured the hearts of those lucky enough to attend.
